Lisa Legere is originally from Miramichi NB where her love for photography was apparent at a young age.
“I was always the one with the camera, snapping pictures of everyone and looking for interesting angles and new points of view”.
Her career plans originated in the arts where she studied Theatre at the Université de Moncton. A new marriage and baby at a young age meant a change in gears and priorities.
“I was like many young mothers; focusing on my baby became my top concern. I tried various careers but I always felt like I was searching for the right balance between artistic expression and financial responsibility.”
It wasn’t until 2001 when Lisa went to the New Brunswick Community College in Miramichi that she found the creative outlet she was looking for. In the Multimedia program, Lisa could explore her creativity once more. She obtained diplomas with first class honours in Multimedia Studies and Courseware Authoring and worked as a graphic designer for the next 7 years until the opportunity to study photography at the College of Craft and Design in Fredericton NB became a reality.
“I never even considered the possibility of being a professional photographer. It was always a wonderful hobby but the thought of a career seemed too self-indulgent. I love being able to combine my knowledge of graphic design with my passion for photography. I am amazed at how far I have come since I began full-time studies in this field.”
Since the fall of 2008, Lisa has been steadily promoting her work. She has been in gallery shows, won the Bridgestone Tire Photography Contest at the college level, was awarded an outstanding photography student prize sponsored by Photo Fredericton, sold private commissioned work and has worked consistently with local photographer Ryan Richard. Her work was also recently published in the summer edition of Canadian Camera magazine. She is a member of Photo Fredericton and CAPA - The Canadian Association for Photographic Art. Lisa currently owns her own professional photography studio where she specializes in wedding and portrait photography. She has also taught courses in Photoshop and Lightroom for the College of Extended Learning at UNB, as well as various photography related courses at the Taymouth Community Center. Lisa has been teaching in the Photography department since 2012 at the Centre for Arts and Technology, (now currently da Vinci College) as well as teaching in and managing the Graphic Design and Web Development program at da Vinci College since 2014 in downtown Fredericton, NB.
